 Celebrating the BIG 50!

VIGEVANO, ITALY (KP) — This year’s Birthday, the BIG 50, was celebrated in a little unknown town in Italy, Vigevano, located about 30 km southwest of Milan.

After our discussions, we came back to Dino’s house and I fell asleep on the couch. A few hours later, I was awoken by the “Rascal Boy.” He looked at me and said, “Hey, bad guy, we must get ready to leave.” I knew that Dino had made arrangements for a wonderful dinner at one of his friend’s restaurant.

Who would have given thought that on my 50th Birthday, I would find myself walking out of a restaurant in Italy and stumbling from the side-effects of molto vino as I slowly made my way toward Dino’s car?

The joking antics included a kiss. Ken reflects, "Dino and I are like brothers rather than simple friends, good brothers at that! He has hosted me four times, taken time off from work, and allowed me to invade his fridge... He he he!!!"

The next morning… 6:00 AM, Dino woke me up to prepare for my train ride to Florence. Oohhh, I could feel the vino! I felt like I was 89 years old! LOL!!!

Ken remembers the candle wish, “I wish life could be easier and less painful. I wish there could be no illnesses, no wars, plenty of food for everyone, and peace in the hearts of men. I will never forget this Birthday, the BIG 50 with my Italian friends."

— Fede and I have chatted on the AOL-Instant Messenger through Dino's insistence. We were able to strike up some interesting conversations, although Fede has some short comings in expressing herself with English. This is one of the reasons that I am learning italiano. Fede, who prefers to be called "Chicca" by her closest friends, lives in San Martino, Italy, a small suburb of Pavia.

Like Dino, Fede also works at the Comune di Vigevano as a Service Chief in the Finance Department. She enjoys outside activities, the beaches, and the mountains.

Fede and I met for the first time last March, 2000 at a restaurant in Pavia with Dino and his family present. I have become enamorated with her beauty and charm. She has a special place in my heart.

Dino treated Fede and me to a fantastic dinner and he also acted as our interpreter during our wonderful time together. The wine was flowing, music softly playing in the background, and the laughter filled our hearts with joy. Truly, a memory to last a lifetime!
